Special 2026 World Rowing Championships BioBlitz!
Nature is teeming with life, even at the site of the 2026 World Rowing Championships. Along the Bosbaan, countless animals, plants, fungi, and other organisms live. Many of which we often overlook. During this special BioBlitz, you’ll go on a journey of discovery and see the surroundings of the World Championships with fresh eyes.
The goal? To spot as many species as possible in a short amount of time! Everyone can participate—young and old, whether you have prior knowledge or are a nature enthusiast. All you need is a keen eye and a smartphone.

What is a BioBlitz? / Why a BioBlitz?
A BioBlitz is a biodiversity survey that maps the animal and plant species in an area within a specific time frame.
With every observation, you contribute to our understanding of nature in the Amsterdamse Bos. This information helps us better understand changes in biodiversity, protect vulnerable species, and keep the area healthy and resilient.
With a BioBlitz, you’ll discover not only top-level water sports but also the hidden natural world around them.
How do you participate?
The entire north side of the Bosbaan is part of the World Rowing Championships event grounds. You may cross the white drawbridge. Stay inside the fences and collect as many plant and animal species as possible!
- Create an account on waarneming.nl. Waarneming.nl is the leading database for collecting nature observations in the Netherlands.
- Download the ObsIdentify app and log in with your account. ObsIdentify is part of waarneming.nl.
- Take photos of all the animals and plants you encounter. You can also take photos directly with the ObsIdentify app.
- Upload your photos. The ObsIdentify app uses AI to help you identify the plant or animal species. Cool, right?
- Submit your observation.
